The successful applicant will work as part of The ARC Research Hub for Advanced Manufacturing of Medical Devices, which is an Industrial Transformation Research Hub built on a strong partnership between Cook Medical Australia and The University of Queensland, along with a network of other industry partners and universities including USC, USyd and RMIT University. The Hub aims to develop cost competitive technologies for the rapid production of devices for Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) and related clinical applications in order to ensure that the Australian industry remains globally competitive.  The Hub team seeks to concurrently develop materials, technologies and flexible manufacturing processes.

The ARC Research Hub for Advanced Manufacturing of Medical Devices seeks to contribute to better health and clinical outcomes globally by attracting and retaining talented people from research and industry for the collaborative development of innovative medical device manufacturing technologies.

The role

The successful appointee will be responsible for implementing advanced automation technologies to improve the value stream in manufacturing of custom medical devices. The ideal candidate will apply their fundamental knowledge and experience in mechatronics to the challenges associated with reliable delivery of patient specific medical devices. Responsibilities will also include translating solutions from researchers and automation technology suppliers into production.

These activities will support the ARC Research Hub for Advanced Manufacturing of Medical Devices. The Mechatronic/Automation Engineer will work closely with the continuous improvement and research teams at Cook Medical Australia as well as automation technology suppliers. The role will be based on-site at partner manufacturing locations.

The person

Applicants should possess a bachelor degree in Engineering, preferably in the field of Mechatronics or equivalent qualification. You should also have demonstrated experience in computer programming and the integration of electrical and mechanical systems. You should have demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, work independently, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and contribute towards a safe working culture and environment.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at HEW Level 6. The remuneration package will be in the range $74,207 - $79,965 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $86,822 - $93,559 p.a.).
