The Indigenous Design Place initiative aims to develop innovative Aboriginal-led social and built environment design solutions to improve quality of life and wellbeing for Australian Indigenous communities. The applied research of the Indigenous Design Place will focus on the development of enhanced hard and soft infrastructure for Indigenous communities, including built environment designs, community-led social change plans, and social policies. These research-based outputs will aim to have direct capacity to improve the daily lives of Aboriginal people, making the Indigenous Design Place a significant value proposition for government (in areas such as health and social services), industry (including design practices and service providers), and Indigenous organisations.

The role

The successful applicant will promote growth in the field of Indigenous-led, inter-disciplinary research as defined within the Indigenous Design Place goals and approach.

The successful applicant will undertake research and engagement duties, associated with the strategic initiative 'Indigenous Design Place', and work closely with either the IDP Director (Professor Paul Memmott) or with other IDP node leaders in the AERC, ISSR or HASS Faculties as agreed with the successful applicant. The appointee will also play a role in promoting Indigenous scholarship.

The person

Applicants should possess a research higher degree (including Honours) in a relevant field such as social science, humanities, architecture or an equivalent combination of formal qualifications and experience. Applicants should have the ability to undertake self-directed and collaborative research, high-level interpersonal skills, the ability to work with Indigenous stakeholders and students in research and teaching, and a demonstrable strong profile of independent research.

Applicants should possess qualifications in relevant disciplines. You should also have a strong desire to develop a successful and highly-productive research career in health behaviour, good general research skills, a strong methodological background, excellent statistical and analytic skills, very good writing abilities, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams.

The University of Queensland values diversity and inclusion.
