Faculty of Engineering - Civil and Environmental Engineering

6 month fixed term role

The University of Auckland's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking an enthusiastic Technician to assist with the safe and effective management and operation of the Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory. This large, new, state of the art research laboratory currently supports the research of numerous academics, research fellows, doctoral scholars, masters and undergraduate students as well as commercial sponsored research.

The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting with the general operation and maintenance of the laboratory, providing technical assistance to staff and students, assisting in the development of new equipment and techniques, supporting the laboratory operation by documenting processes and maintaining high levels of safety.

Who are we looking for?

If you’re someone who has an interest in water engineering and fluid mechanics, and experience working in a technical workshop/laboratory environment, then this role could be perfect for you. Some knowledge of electronic data acquisition, computers, transducers and hydraulics including pumps is also desirable. Knowledge and understanding of Industrial Safety procedures would be an advantage. The role has considerable interaction with other technicians and students.

  • Team player and desire to interact with students


A professional qualification such as BE or NZCE or trade certificates qualification is required.
