Technical Services Manager

The University of Auckland has an established Facilities Management team within Property Services. Our team provides leading edge facilities management, planning and development service that contributes to the success of the University of Auckland.  As one of Auckland’s largest and most diverse property portfolio owners and occupiers, the University of Auckland own and lease over 200 buildings comprising of 600,000 sqm with a mix of new, older and heritage buildings.  We are the leaders within New Zealand’s energy field and we are keen to continue being innovative, cost effective with a strong focus to reducing our carbon emissions, and ensuring we are aligned in working closely with sustainable design principles.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Facilities Management, you will be responsible for providing engineering and design consultancy services, to support the operational and capital planning activities of property services. Additionally you will ensure that project managers, consultants, designers and contractors are advised on building services policies and operational requirements are included in the design and documentation and execution of our capital and maintenance projects.

It is essential you will hold a tertiary technical qualification (NZCE or BE) and have a minimum of 7 years’ experience working within the construction, electrical or mechanical fields. Candidates with experience working in a tertiary education facility or similar multifaceted, large complex environments, will be strongly considered. You will need to have demonstrated experience in financial analysis, graphical information systems and statistical reporting and enjoy managing several functions and projects simultaneously.

This is a senior role, and your mature and engaging approach will earn your credibility stripes with a diverse group of stakeholders.  With highly developed written and verbal communication skills, you will bring exceptional leadership and credibility around technical design knowledge and be seen as a credible and influential manager.  Your ability to motivate and lead to deliver goals effectively combined with sound professional judgement and decision making skills will be key to your success in this role.
