The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies at the University of Sydney is consistently ranked in the top 50 engineering and technology universities in the world. We are currently inviting applications for the new Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies. This position is responsible for planning, setting, and communicating the academic and operational vision, strategies and goals of the faculty and achieving them in accordance with the University’s strategic plan and governance framework. The dean oversees the faculty’s research, talent management and external engagement strategies and is responsible for overall alignment of curriculum design to faculty mission, University policies and external standards.

This is an opportunity to lead the development of the new Engineering and Technology precinct that will be undergoing a multimillion-dollar revitalisation project. The Engineering and Technology precinct is to provide an environment in which our leading researchers and students can thrive and realise their full potential. The project will include new multidisciplinary learning and research spaces that reflect our culture of innovation and scholarship.

You will be an outstanding leader and academic with a distinguished teaching and research record, and will have high level leadership and management skills, including the ability to effectively manage significant budgets and the full range of people matters. The capacity to think and act strategically and oversee strategy development and implementation is required. Additionally, you will be capable of providing leadership and vision for the academic disciplines of the faculty, accessing your extensive knowledge and national and international networks in engineering and information technologies.

You will have demonstrated skills in leading a substantial academic community through large scale, complex change and establishing and sustaining a high achieving, cohesive culture. You must also have the capacity to actively and collaboratively contribute to the work of the University Executive, and other critical University governance groups as required.

Term and Remuneration

The initial appointment will be for 5 years with the opportunity for renewal subject to assessment of performance.

The successful candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package, and will also hold the title of Professor.
