An exciting opportunity has emerged to recruit a Student Development Adviser (Student Experience Adviser) to join the Student Development and Engagement Team in the Business School.

This position sits within the Faculty’s student services and/or student development and engagement teams to provide opportunities and services to students to engage, develop and be supported through the student lifecycle.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Deliver effective first year support and transition programmes including mentoring programmes and orientation activities
  • Facilitate access to development programmes & initiatives e.g., leadership programmes, community service and volunteering and student support funds
  • Liaise with Campus life and other providers of engagement, wellbeing and pastoral care services in order to refer appropriate students
  • Deliver high quality events that celebrate student success including graduation, awards and prize giving
  • Ensure that all programmes are well publicised within the faculty and across other relevant Faculties
  • Gather and review feedback from all key stakeholders on the effectiveness of programmes and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Support the Faculty to meet the requirements of the Code of Practice for Pastoral Care of International Students


Key Skills and Experience Required:

  • Tertiary qualification or relevant experience
  • Experience working in an environment requiring high levels of customer service delivery, ideally working with tertiary students or academics
  • Experience of understanding equity issues in New Zealand especially with relation to Māori and Pacific Island people
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft suite of programmes, experience with student learning applications would be advantageous
  • Demonstrates problem solving ability requiring judgement and interpretation of established information
  • Ability to work as part of a larger team
  • Excellent communication skills and customer service focus
