Salary:  £29,301 to £46,924 per annum

Full Time - Fixed Term for 5 years and then appointable to Lecturer or Associate Professor subject to satisfactory progress.

You will be expected to develop an international reputation for excellence in research. The Faculty has nearly 200 academic staff working in a number of research themes. The Southampton vision group is an integral and thriving part of the Clinical Neurosciences Research Grouping in the Faculty of Medicine. Details of the Senior Vision Group can be found here: https://www.giftofsight.org.uk/about-us/our-senior-research-team.  Candidates with a strong track record in any area of vision research will be considered. Current research interests in the group include retinal stem cells, retinal gene therapy, ocular neuroinflammation, disease modelling in ocular (retinal) disease, ophthalmic genetics and paediatric eye diseases. An interest complementary or broadening these themes would be welcome. We have state-of-the-art facilities for laboratory vision research as well as dedicated ophthalmic clinical trial space in our NIHR Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility.

You will already have a track record of producing peer reviewed publications and able to supervise PhD researchers. We are offering an opportunity for you to develop independence in research, success in grant applications and excellence in teaching and education including a postgraduate certificate in academic practice (PCAP).  On successful achievement of core competencies to level 5 (see Tenure Track Research Fellowship Expectations) you will be eligible for appointment to an open-ended academic post at Lecturer/Associate Professor level at the end of this appointment.

You will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Biological/ Biomedical Sciences/ Cell biology/ molecular biology or a relevant field, along with a detailed understanding and knowledge of research in visual sciences or related field.

Interviews will take place Friday 30 June 2017 and will involve delivering a presentation to Faculty.
