VACANCY: PROGRAMME MANAGER: SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT (PERMANENT)
Responsibilities:
• Management, design, development and implementation of computer software and applications
• Maintenance of existing software
• Resource and product development
• Research
Minimum Requirements
-
A relevant degree in Information Technology, Language Technology, Computer Linguistics, Computer Engineering, Computer System Development or another relevant degree
-
Five years’ programming experience in: PERL, C, C++, C# or Java
-
Five years’ experience in the use of different operating systems such as Windows, Linux and Apple iOS
-
Two years’ experience in software-development project management
-
Two years’ experience in the management of a group of software developers
Job Specification
-
Advanced experience in MS Office, internet and email
-
Advanced experience in text processing, machine learning and other natural processing
-
Expertise on contractual matters
-
The ability to master new software
-
The ability to function within a team and adapt to the work method of the team, as well as to work independently
-
The ability to prioritise and manage various tasks simultaneously, and to work under pressure and excel
-
Excellent communication skills, writing skills and presentation abilities
-
The ability to liaise with high-level stakeholders, specifically in the public sector
-
The ability to successfully prioritise, manage and complete a variety of tasks in line with the objectives of CTexT
-
Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU
-
Creative problem-solving ability
The following may serve as recommendation:

One year’s experience in text processing, the creation of corpora and lexical database development

One year’s experience in web development and database development will serve as a recommendation
