We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher to work on an EPSRC project in the area of Manufacturing with Light to develop solid-state waveguide amplifiers and lasers. The project, has the goal to develop novel crystalline waveguides, via pulsed laser deposition, to enable new operating regimes for efficient short-pulse laser systems in a compact footprint. The successful applicant will join the Optoelectronics Research Centre in a team bridging research groups investigating advanced solid-state laser systems and materials processing.

You must have a strong background in laser physics, optics, with research experience in diode-pumped solid-state-lasers and excellent experimental skills. You will be expected to work as part of a cohesive team, to interact with internal and external project partners, and to disseminate result findings to the broader community.  It is expected that you will hold a PhD* in Physics/Engineering or equivalent with relevant experience at post-graduate/post-doctoral in solid-state lasers.  A hands-on approach is necessary and it would be desirable for you to have experience with modelling and engineering design software, along with a keen interest in developing new physical ideas from proof-of-principle to implementation.

Salary will be between £29,301 and £32,004 depending upon experience and the post will be 2 years in duration.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
