Job Details

Location: Bristol, UK

The School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies (SPAIS) at the University of Bristol is seeking to appoint three Lecturers in Sociology. Together with a further Teaching Fellow appointment, this represents a significant expansion of Sociology within the University, building on our excellent second-place position in the 2014 REF under the ‘research intensity’ criterion, together with substantial recent uplift in the teaching-related and student-experience dimension.

Those appointed to the Lectureships will bring (or soon achieve) highest-quality research publications; become involved in interdisciplinary funded research projects; and deliver outstanding teaching, with enthusiastic and engaged student support. All appointments will be expected to contribute knowledgeably to core undergraduate teaching as well as offering attractive specialist options at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The study of ‘digital society’ (in all its dimensions) is one definite strategic priority, and at least one of the positions will require expertise in qualitative methods. Whether operating within or beyond those foci, we will consider applications that also bolster or complement existing research and teaching concentrations, for example - sociology of family, sociology of culture, science and technology, political and economic sociology, health and social care, and post-colonial/global sociology.

We very much welcome applications from colleagues from under-represented groups within academia, including BME and LGBQTI.

For further information please contact Professor Gregor McLennan (Head of School): G.McLennan@bristol.ac.uk

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture.  We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
