Job Details
The Institute of Nursing Science (INS) at the University of Basel (http://nursing.unibas.ch) invites applications for the position of PhD student in the Patient Safety and Quality of Care Research Group. The candidate will contribute to the SHURP 2018 study (Swiss Nursing Homes Human Resources Project). The study is the follow-up of the SHURP study (https://shurp.unibas.ch) to assess the relationship of organizational characteristics of nursing homes, the work environment of care workers and rationing of nursing care with both personnel and resident outcomes. SHURP is a nationwide multi-center study in Swiss nursing homes focusing a.o. on the relationship of context factors with the newly introduced national quality indicators in long-term care.
Job Description
The successful candidate is expected to:
- Achieve his/her PhD within a timeframe of 3-4 years
- Contribute to the preparation, data collection, data analysis and dissemination of the SHURP 2018 study
Qualifications – skills
- Master degree in Nursing Science, Public Health, Medicine, Health Economics or another field of health sciences or Master degree from a University of Applied Sciences of similar fields with outstanding grades
- Experience in long-term care is highly desirable
- Sound knowledge of basic office (e.g. Word, PowerPoint)
- Sound methodological and statistical skills and sound knowledge of statistical analysis software such as R or STATA or the willingness to develop these skills and knowledge
- Proficiency of either German, French or Italian (level C2), good oral and written skills in one of the other two languages
- Good oral and written English skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
Working Environment
The successful candidate will:
- Benefit from first-hand experience in health services research, working with a group of long-term care institutions
- Be embedded in the Patient Safety and Quality of Care Research Group of the INS
- Benefit from the well-established INS research infrastructure and the infrastructure offered by the PhD in Health Sciences Educational Platform (PPHS - www.pphs.unibas.ch)
- Have access to the Swiss PhD in Nursing Science Educational Platform (SPINE), a joint PhD educational infrastructure of the University of Basel and University of Lausanne for nursing science students
- Experience a stimulating international working environment which has collaborative relationships with leading international nursing researchers and centers of research in long-term care (see http://nursing.unibas.ch/en/home/)
