Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation

The Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) is a unique research institute in Australia – a jointly funded initiative of UQ and Agri-Science Queensland and Biosecurity Queensland, part of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF). QAAFI conducts research and development to benefit the food and fibre sector both nationally and internationally.

The Institute's strengths are reflected in its three research centres – the Centre for Plant Science, the Centre for Animal Scienceand the Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences.  QAAFI brings together scientists from UQ and DAF to conduct high-end science that delivers higher impact outcomes for industry and the community.

QAAFI offers postgraduate programs in the disciplines of Plant, Animal and Food sciences internally and externally and provides professional training to both Australian and international students.

The role

The successful appointee will assist the development and deployment of a range of diagnostic assays for priority endemic and exotic fungal, bacterial and viral pathogens of banana and engage in the banana pathology research program, contribute to collaborations which yield new insights and opportunities, and to assist honours, masters and doctoral students.

The person

Applicants should possess qualifications in plant pathology, molecular and/or population biology. You should also have a strong desire to develop a successful research career in plant pathology, possess good general laboratory research skills, strong organisational skills, well developed bioinformatics and analytic skills, and the capacity to work within multidisciplinary research teams.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Remuneration

This is a full-time fixed term position for 4 years (1FTE), or part time (0.8FTE) until 12 December 2021, at a HEW Level 5. The remuneration package will be in the range $64,597 - $72,348 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $75,579 - $84,648 p.a.).
