Job Purpose

To contribute to the achievement of the School’s research strategy by undertaking specified research activities within an established research programme, and to provide support in management of the project.

The post holder will support a project on the development the laser blown powder additive manufacturing process. This PhD project is sponsored by the “4D Hybrid” Horizon 2020 project.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

  • Normally a PhD or EngD in one of the following subjects: Metallurgy and Material Science, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering


Knowledge & Experience:

• Experience/knowledge of the principles of additive manufacturing
• CAD/CAM experience (preferably Solidworks & AlphaCAM)
• Programming experience (Matlab or Python)
• Practical experience of mechanical, control, and measurement systems
• Experience of FE modelling
• Practical experience/knowledge of microstructural characterisation and mechanical testing
• An eagerness to be involved in the ‘hands on’ development of a manufacturing process and a readiness to identify new skills and learn as appropriate.
