Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) is a tertiary health care centre, providing care in all major adult specialties, with the exception of obstetrics. It is one of Australia’s leading academic and research health centres, hosting Australia’s most advanced medical research facility, the Translational Research Institute (TRI) as well as a new Clinical Research Facility for the discoveries made at TRI to be trialled in a safe clinical environment. It is one of eight partners in Queensland's first academic health sciences centre, Brisbane Diamantina Health Partners.

The Emergency Department (ED) at the PAH is a major training facility for medical, nursing, social work and allied health students, plus trainees doctors from interns through to registrars attaining fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine. More than 175 nurses are employed in the ED to providing services. The ED which has more than 60,000 annual presentation has an active research program. This Emergency Medicine Research Program (EMRP), works across many systems including education, workforce and clinical and has resulted in more than 70 publications in the last three years. The EMRP is supported by UQ and has strong connections across other hospitals and universities which offer many opportunities for collaborative research. The successful applicant to this position will join an existing dedicated research team.

The role

This is a conjoint position between the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) and School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work (NMSW). The successful appointee will assist in the continued development and maintenance of a productive program of research in Emergency Nursing in line with the research priorities of both the Hospital and the School. Significant, ongoing contribution and leadership to the Emergency Medicine Research Program at the PAH is a requirement of this position. Equally the appointee will be expected to recruit and supervise research higher degree students and contribute to the teaching and governance within the School of NMSW at UQ. This position will play a leading role in the drive to integrate and leverage the resources and strengths of both UQ and Metro South Health.

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD or an equivalent research doctorate in nursing, and be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). You must be able to demonstrate a capacity to conduct a strong and productive program of research and build a successful research partnership between the PAH and the School of NMSW. Candidates must also demonstrated teaching skills at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and capacity to supervise postgraduate research students. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for five years at Academic level C. The remuneration package will be in the range $112,874 - $130,151 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $132,063 - $152,277 p.a.). The position will be reviewed at the end of the five year period.
