Job Details

Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences

Department of Molecular Medicine and Pathology

The University of Auckland is New Zealand’s leading university. We employ more than 5400 academic and professional staff to support over 41,000 students, making us one of NZ’s largest employers.

Here at the Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences, our lecturers and health researchers are regarded as experts in their fields, frequently directing global research projects designed to better the lives of New Zealanders and the world, and in turn passing this knowledge on to our students.

The opportunity

Applications are invited for a technician to work in a translational lab in the Leukaemia & Blood Cancer Research Unit at the University of Auckland.

Genomic surveys recently identified novel somatic mutations in paediatric acute myeloid leukaemia that predict a high rate of relapse and death with existing therapy.  We are seeking a motivated individual to study the molecular pathogenesis and cooperativity of these mutations, with the ultimate goal of gaining new therapeutic insights.

The role will include creation and characterisation of cell line and zebrafish models to define the effects of pathogenic variants on cell signaling, gene expression, haematopoiesis, and drug sensitivity. Prior experience in molecular biology is required.

Why us?

The University is committed to providing an excellent working environment through flexible employment practices and a culture that encourages and supports staff to reach their full potential. We offer a competitive salary, five weeks’ annual leave, and over 300 different career development courses.

In addition, the University offers a company superannuation scheme, discounted car parking, childcare and a number of other subsidies on internal and external services.

For more information please visit: Career development and benefits.

This is a full time, fixed term position for a period of 12 months. Professional staff level 4.

All applications must be submitted online. For further information, please contact Dr. Andy Wood, Paediatric Hematologist-Oncologist ac.wood@auckland.ac.nz.

The University is committed to meeting its obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi and achieving equity outcomes for staff and students in a safe, inclusive and equitable environment.  For further information on services for Māori, Pacific, women, LGBTI, equity groups, parenting support and flexible work go to www.equity.auckland.ac.nz.

Applications close on Sunday 28th May 2017.
