Job Details

Gastrointestinal Cancer Research Group

Are you an ambitious researcher with a medical degree and a PhD in pathology? Do you have postgraduate training in gastrointestinal pathology with experience of molecular and cellular biology? Do you want to understand disease mechanisms and have your research make a direct impact on the development of new cancer treatments?

You will pursue a project aimed at assessing the pathology changes after treatment in clinical trials of bowel cancer, which include the MRC Foxtrot and MRC CR07 trials. The project builds on previous work on the quality of surgery and the effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy in improving patient outcomes. It will utilise skills in macroscopic pathology, histopathology, immunocytochemistry and digital pathology.

You will work independently and as part of a larger team of researchers, to develop research objectives/proposals and to set the direction of the research project and team. You will proactively assess progression and suggest improvements, prepare collaborative funding proposals and engage in knowledge-transfer activities.

You will have a medical degree and a PhD in Pathology with a strong background in GI histopathology, molecular and cellular biology. As you will work closely, interactively and collaboratively with the project team, you will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
