The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences is a vibrant, multidisciplinary School with extensive teaching and research programs covering the fields of Geology, Geography, Environmental Management, Occupational Health and Safety Sciences and Planning.

The role

The successful appointee will be engaged as a postdoctoral research fellow to work in an ARC Discovery project on developing new approaches to model human-environment interactions for sustainable city development based on complex systems theory, cellular automata (CA) and agent based modelling (ABM). Applicant will support the ARC Research Program and undertake research work with an international research team including world leading urban modelling scientist Professor Michael Batty from the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) of the University College London, and researchers from Australia and China. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and conducting research on the topic specific to the ARC project.

The person

Applicant should possess a PhD in the area of GIS, geo-informatics, human geography, urban studies/planning, or other relevant field. You should also have a strong desire to develop a successful and highly-productive research career in GIS/urban modelling/geosimulation, good general research skills, a strong methodological background, excellent statistical and analytic skills, very good writing abilities, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams.

Remuneration

This is a full-time fixed term appointment at Academic Research level A for two years. The remuneration package will be in the range $81,545.80 - $87,535.13 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $95,408.59 - $102,416.10 p.a.)
