Research Associate in visualization design and data analytics to support engineering projects

The Design and Manufacturing Futures Lab is a world-leading research group housed within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bristol. We are seeking a new member of the team to work on an exciting and novel research project funded by the EPSRC, developing and evaluating techniques for the generation of real-time knowledge and insights into engineering project activities based on the projects’ evolving digital footprint.

Your role will be to develop data visualisations and user interfaces, based on existing analytics that allow high levels of user interaction and data interrogation. You will also lead in the testing and evaluation of these visualisations and interfaces with our project partners, including their use, effectiveness, and impact on engineering project performance.

You will join a team of post-doctoral researchers working between the University of Bristol and the University of Bath, with this post based primarily at the University of Bristol. The programme grant has been running for 3.5 years with just under one year remaining. At this stage in the research programme, our attention is focused on the verification and validation of our methods through industrial studies as well as application to new areas and IMPACT case studies. The team is also collectively tasked with consolidation of the research programme and the preparation of material for final reporting, journal publication and IMPACT activities. You will be expected to contribute to these activities and work collaboratively with all team members at the University of Bristol and University of Bath. You will also be expected to prepare and present reports, conference papers and trade articles.

You will have at least a first degree and preferably a PhD in Computing Science/ Engineering (or closely related discipline) and have good experience of software development, computer-aided design, data analytics and knowledge discovery techniques.

This post is offered on a full time, fixed term contract for: 7 months from July 1st 2017
