Job Purpose

To support analysis and reporting for BUMP Early Adopter evaluation Phase 1, undertake qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis for the evaluation of phases 2 and 3. The post holder will work with the lead of the evaluation programme, in close collaboration with other members of the CLAHRC Maternity Team.

The post holder will contribute to the Early Adopter evaluation by undertaking semi-structured interviews and focus groups with NHS staff and women using maternity services. The evaluation will also involve use of routine quantitative data from the services within BUMP, and may also involve collection and analysis of additional quantitative data. The post holder will undertake analysis of qualitative and quantitative data.

Quantitative and qualitative findings will be used to build a picture of how the Early Adopter implementation is working. This will be disseminated to local and national stakeholders to inform on going implementation of the Better Births policy.

Person Specification

• First degree in relevant subject area, e.g. Medical Sciences, Nursing, Midwifery, Sociology, Psychology or other health related degree
• Master’s level in relevant subject area.
• Previous experience of clinical or academic work in the field of maternal care would be desirable
• Experience of using qualitative and quantitative methods
• Experience of research or service development activities, involving the collection and analysis of data and reporting of findings
• Experience of working in an Academic/University environment and/or the NHS
• Experience of presenting information or findings to different audiences
• Experience of managing, negotiating and influencing
• Building and maintaining positive working relationships with people across different organisations
• Ability to prioritise workload
• Ability to write and present reports or findings at various levels
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and organisational skills
• Proficient in the use of generic IT packages, for example Outlook and Excel
• Understanding of the NHS landscape and Academic environment
• Familiarity with the CLAHRC-WM
• Previous experience / knowledge of health services research
• Understanding of the Better Births policy and its application to current maternity services is desirable
• Ability to work independently using own initiative
• Ability to develop own research ideas
