The Institute for Social Science Research

The Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) is a national leader in advanced interdisciplinary social science and evidence-based policy research. ISSR researchers address some of the most important issues and challenges facing Australia and the world today in areas such as education, employment, housing, social wellbeing, homelessness, sustainability, health, international development and Indigenous studies. The Institute also undertakes research to improve social science and evaluation methodology and is developing new capabilities in data science, and in the social aspects of health. The Institute also offers commercial services and training for public, private and community sector organisations. It provides high-quality learning experiences for postgraduate and postdoctoral students, and has some of the most advanced research facilities for data collection and analysis in the country. The Institute employs nearly 100 faculty and staff, has an annual budget of $11 million and includes affiliated researchers in the fields of political science, sociology, social policy, geographical sciences, economics, psychology, education, demography, mathematics, statistics and computer science. ISSR is located on the University's new Long Pocket precinct (off Meiers Road, Indooroopilly).

The role

The successful appointee for this position will contribute to quantitative research examining life course aspects of health and community-focussed research on social health initiatives. The work program for these positions is led by Professor Rosa Alati and the position will be located inside the Alati Group in ISSR. The successful appointee will manage the Queensland national Drug Trends (Ecstasy and Related Drugs Reporting System – EDRS – and Illicit Drugs Reporting System – IDRS) research programs.

 

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in the relevant discipline. You will have excellent research and project management skills as demonstrated through high-quality research, publications, data collection and analysis. You will also have strong skills external engagement, demonstrated by fostering, developing and managing relations with industry, government and professional bodies. You will have a high level of interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with research colleagues from different backgrounds and disciplines, and also with administrative and technical staff.

Remuneration

This is a part-time, fixed term appointment for 2 years at Academic Level B. The remuneration package for a 0.7 full-time equivalent will be in the range $64,499 - $76,593 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $75,464 - $89,614 p.a.).
