This is an excellent opportunity for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader post in Algorithms at the University of Sheffield. Working in the Department of Computer Science, you will join our rapidly expanding Algorithms Group. The group focuses on the design and analysis of algorithms which provably solve computational problems efficiently. The Department is embarking on an exciting growth strategy following our strong performance in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014, in which we were ranked 5th out of 89 computer science departments in the UK. To build upon our continued success, we seek to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader in the design and analysis of algorithms, broadly defined, with specialist expertise in an area including, but not limited to: randomised algorithms streaming algorithms and sublinear-time algorithms combinatorial optimisation approximation algorithms and parameterised algorithms distributed computing algorithmic game theory You will contribute to our internationally leading research portfolio, working on topics relating to the theoretical analysis of algorithms, and will conduct research to the highest standards. This will include securing research funding, publishing in high-impact journals, supervision of research students and assisting on research project management.

As a teacher, you will play a key role in maintaining our reputation for high-quality teaching by designing, delivering and assessing undergraduate and postgraduate level programmes in machine learning and other topics in computer science. As well as conducting research at the highest level, you will develop and deliver high-quality research-led teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Additionally, a Senior Lecturer/Reader will carry out a significant departmental, Faculty and/or University administrative role to a high standard, maintain substantial international recognition through an extensive range of professional activities and act in senior roles within the Department/Faculty/University, providing leadership and direction for other University colleagues as appropriate. You will hold a PhD in Computer Science or a related area. If appointed as a Senior Lecturer/Reader, you will also require experience of obtaining externally funded research grants, experience of supervising postgraduate students and evidence of academic leadership.
