The University of Queensland (UQ) ranks well within the top 100 universities worldwide, measured through the majority of independent university rankings, and is in the top 50 in some of these rankings. One of Australia’s prominent ‘Group of Eight’ research intensive universities, UQ has a 50,000-plus strong student community, more than 7000 academic and professional staff, and a $1.7 billion annual operating budget. UQ’s outstanding critical mass offers researchers significant interdisciplinary capability, while the institution prides itself on delivering a student experience of the highest quality.

The role drives the University’s strategic planning and performance agenda, with responsibility for directing strategic projects, business intelligence, and reporting & analytics; as well as co-ordinating reporting cycles and analysis of institutional data. It also has a major focus on industrial and employee relations issues for academic staff – including academic misconduct and performance related issues - and plays a key role in UQ’s Enterprise Agreement and HR policy. The PVC is also responsible for the development and implementation of university-wide policy to create a diverse and inclusive environment for UQ’s students and staff.
The successful candidate should possess deep experience in higher education, a track record of leadership and management at a senior level, and a detailed knowledge of national and international higher education issues. Demonstrated skills in the development of strategy and operational plans, data analysis and performance monitoring are also essential. Personal attributes include the ability to work collaboratively at all levels within the University as part of an executive team, stakeholder management skills of the highest order, and the capacity to establish effective partnerships with government, community and international partners.
