We are looking for a dynamic and innovative Lead Practitioner to join our award winning careers service.  

The Careers and Employability Service, based in Student Services, provides high quality information, advice and guidance to a diverse student body.  The service also offers an established programme of employer engagement activities, events and several experience programmes.  You can find out more about our programmes and services at: www.southampton.ac.uk/careers

Our Career Practitioner team operates in an exciting, fast paced environment offering expert support to students in relation to their career and professional development. The Lead Practitioner post provides an exciting opportunity to take a lead role in establishing innovative ways to embed careers and employability within the university framework. 

You will be responsible for the management and leadership of the Career Practitioner team as well as contributing to the design and delivery of bespoke careers programmes within priority faculties. You may also be asked to support the delivery of our central Events Calendar's one to one provision on a limited basis. 

Within the role, you will also have the opportunity to lead on and contribute to projects and other activities facilitating the on-going development of the service. 

Person Specification

We are seeking individuals with excellent people management, project management and team skills; able to deliver to deadlines and manage multiple activities. You will be a confident, credible and inspirational individual with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, keen to push the boundaries of traditional careers work.

Applicants will need a recognised qualification in careers guidance, or relevant experience, ideally with recent experience of providing advice and guidance within a Higher Education context. 

To support our work with faculties and your team, you will be able to build effective working relationships with Faculty staff and relevant employers, and be able to demonstrate an appropriate knowledge of relevant employment sectors and opportunities. You will also be able to demonstrate successful outcomes achieved through influencing key stakeholders such as senior managers within an education environment or business in relation to employability.

This post is offered on a permanent basis offering a salary of £29,301. Further benefits of this role include the opportunity to join the University pension scheme, 30 days annual leave and access to a number of employee discount schemes.
