The Department of Clinical Neurosciences (http://www.ucalgary.ca/dcns/), in partnership with the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI https://research4kids.ucalgary.ca/), the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI, http://www.hbi.ucalgary.ca/), and the O’Brien Institute for Public Health (OIPH, https://obrieniph.ucalgary.ca/) in the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary,  invite applications for a full-time Tenure Track position, at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, to develop vigorous, independent, basic or clinical research programs in areas related to Epilepsy. The successful candidate will be a member of the Division of Neurology.

The Department is seeking to recruit either a clinician scientist with a focus on basic translational research in Epilepsy or a clinical researcher with a focus on areas related to Health Outcomes Research in Epilepsy.

Qualifications include an MD and/or PhD with basic/translational research training and demonstrated commitment to research in areas related to epileptogenesis and disease mechanisms or with research training in clinical epidemiology and demonstrated commitment to research in areas related to Health Outcomes Research and Analytics. .  The ability to establish an independent research program as demonstrated by a portfolio of scholarly work is also required. At the Assistant Professor level, this will entail the publication of at least 5 peer reviewed papers, with the majority as 1st or senior author. Candidates at the Associate Professor level should have 10 or more peer reviewed papers, with the majority as 1st or senior author, and a demonstrated ability to attract peer reviewed funding.

Excellent facilities for clinical and basic neuroscience, health outcomes research and state-of-the-art clinical and research infrastructure, provide an environment conducive to leading-edge research. The Epilepsy Program in Calgary provides care to the 1.8 million residents of Southern Alberta and is involved in funded research. ACHRI, HBI, OIPH, the Cumming School of Medicine and Department of Clinical Neurosciences will provide attractive start-up support, laboratory space and Analytics facilities, to equip the recruited candidate for success.

While duties include providing clinical service in the Section of Neurology and clinical teaching, substantial time will be protected for research. Qualifications include an MD, specialist certification in Neurology, fellowship in Complex Epilepsies and Certification in EEG and Presurgical evaluation, as well as eligibility for medical licensure in the Province of Alberta. Salary support will be through an Alternative Relationship Plan in Neurology supported by Alberta Health, Alberta Health Services and the Cumming School of Medicine.
