Under the direction of supervisor, conducts laboratory and animal studies for the development of new or improved veterinary or biological products.

- Performs routine laboratory and animal work with minimal supervision.

- Performs complex laboratory and animal work under moderate to close supervision.

- Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

- Responsible for recording data, performing routine calculations, and providing tabulated summaries to supervisor. Does not draw conclusions on complex experiments without input from supervisor.

- Assists in writing routine laboratory procedure protocols with close supervision.

- Coordinates work schedule with animal care group.

- Assists in the preparation of standard operating procedures and R&D procedures under minimal supervision.

- Responsible for recording and auditing data, performing routine calculations, and providing tabulated summaries with minimal supervision.

- Performs complex analyses and draws conclusions to experiments with close supervision.

- Writes study protocols with minimal supervision. Writes reports for studies with close supervision.

- May serve as Study Investigator for laboratory procedures and animal studies.

- Reads scientific literature as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:

- Bachelors degree in biology, microbiology, virology, immunology, biotechnology, biomedical engineering or related field and a minimum of 1 year of experience

Required Experience and Skills:

- Good knowledge of aseptic techniques.

- Good knowledge of protein chemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, virology, immunology and animal science.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

- Experience in protein biochemistry or bioassay development is desirable.

- Knowledge of laboratory techniques such as SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS, column chromotography, ELISA, cell culture, PCR, flow cytometry, cell-based binding or blocking assays, proliferention assays and other basic laboratory techniques is highly desirable.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and computer skills such as Microsoft Office and Outlook.

- Must be able to work effectively and collaborate with peers in R&D and other departments.
