Job Details

Are you looking to apply your skills in Biochemistry/Biophysics to help gain a new molecular understanding of how proteins assemble into amyloid fibrils and to develop new routes to treating amyloid disease?

Job Details

We are looking for an outstanding postdoctoral research fellow to join a Wellcome Trust-funded team which will ultimately involve four post-doctoral researchers investigating the mechanisms of protein aggregation into amyloid fibrils using chemical biology, biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, cell biology and experiments in C.elegans models of amyloid disease. You will have expertise in the analysis of protein structure and assembly mechanisms using biophysical and biochemical methods including fluorescence approaches, other spectroscopic methods and native mass spectrometry for the analysis of protein binding and assembly. The project focuses on mapping the earliest protein-protein interactions that commit proteins to aggregate into amyloid and to discover new routes to prevent these interactions using small molecules or novel protein scaffolds (affimers) selected using phage display.

You will be based in the laboratory of Professor Sheena Radford and will work closely with Dr Darren Tomlinson, our collaborators and other members of the amyloid team. You will have a PhD (or be close to completion) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics or a related discipline. You will also have experience of using biophysical and biochemical methods to analyse protein structure, folding and binding. Experience in the use of mass spectrometry to analyse proteins and protein complexes and/or working with cell biological methods would be an advantage.

Further information about the project and recent publications are available within the additional information document.
