The Discovery organization seeks an outstanding candidate to join the Therapeutic Area – Autoimmune and Inflammation Group. This Associate Scientist role will focus on designing and performing experiments using functional in vitro and ex vivo cell based assays to advance drug discovery research programs from target validation through to clinical candidates.

Experience in cell biology is required for this role with preference given to candidates with demonstrated experience in immunology. The successful candidate will have deep scientific curiosity, excellent oral and written communication skills, work well independently and as part of a collaborative team, and be able to work on several projects simultaneously. With appropriate supervision, the role includes planning, designing, developing methodologies and executing projects utilizing good scientific judgment. The position is a hands-on, laboratory based role with no direct reports (individual contributor).

Qualifications

Education:

- BS degree in biology, cell biology, biochemistry, immunology or related discipline

Required:

- Experience with in vitro and or ex vivo cellular techniques

- Human and/or rodent cell and tissue culture skills

- Able to perform cellular immune function assays (i.e. proliferation/cytotoxicity/apoptosis assays).

- Experience in techniques such as bioassays (eg. ELISA, multiplex protein analysis), cell separation techniques (i. e. density centrifugation, magnetic bead separation), FACS sorting or basic molecular biology

- Good data handling and recording skills as well as the ability to interpret moderately complex data sets and draw appropriate conclusions from them

- Must be able to work as a team player and be enthusiastic

Preferred:

- Cell line engineering for assay development

- Experience of more sophisticated flow cytometry or molecular biology techniques

- Cellular staining and imaging techniques (eg. immunohistochemistry, light and confocal microscopy)

- In vivo experience

- Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech industry or academic setting in an immunology, biology, biochemistry or related discipline would be an advantage but technical training will be provided
