Job Details

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in Protein NMR and Structural Molecular Biology? Do you want to further your career in one of the UKs leading research intensive Universities?

The post-doctoral position in structural biology is available in the group of Anastasia Zhuravleva at the Astbury Centre of Structural Molecular Biology (ACSMB), to work on a research project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The project aims at integrating the latest developments in fast acquisition methods for solution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to develop a cost- and time-efficient high-resolution hydrogen/deuterium exchange (HDX) approach for structural and dynamic characterization of large protein systems, inaccessible via other structural methods such as X-ray, cryo-EM, and traditional NMR and HDX. The proposed methodology will be applied for the characterization of several key classes of challenging biological systems: multidomain molecular chaperones BIP and Hsp90, extended intrinsically disordered regions in the stress-sensor IRE1, the transient IRE1-BIP complex, and membrane transporters.

The ACSMB NMR Facility comprises of three high-field bio-NMR instruments (950, 750, and 750MHz) equipped with pulsed, field-gradient triple-resonance probes and dedicated to biological NMR applications, which provides an ideal scientific environment for this project. We have also regular access to national NMR facilities at Birmingham (HWB-NMR, 900 MHz) and MRC Biomedical NMR Centre at the Francis Crick Institute (London, 950 MHz).

Your role will involve producing recombinant proteins for characterization, designing and testing protocols for sample preparations and deuterium labelling and processing NMR spectra and analysing NMR data. You should hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics or related area. Hands-on experience in bio-NMR, protein expression and purification is essential. Expertise in computational methods is desirable.
