Job Details
The Faculty of Engineering is top 100 in the world for engineering and technology and one of the largest engineering groupings in the UK, with in excess of 700 staff and 3,500 students. One of five Schools within the Faculty, the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering has a long-standing reputation for research excellence and was the second-highest ranked electronic engineering school in the UK in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF). Over the last 12 months the School has substantially expanded its academic staff base and research expertise by a series of strategic appointments at both Chair and early-career levels.
The University is now seeking to appoint a Professor of Smart Energy Systems who will join the newly formed Institute of Communication and Power Networks (ICaPNet) within the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. The Institute combines world class expertise in energy-efficient communication networks with innovation in heterogeneous electrical power systems to provide a fertile platform for novel developments in responsive/interactive energy networks. Applications are invited from individuals with research experience in fields such as: grid-integration of renewable energy sources; grid energy management and control; distributed generation management; hardware design for smart grids; electric vehicle infrastructure design; integration of communications systems with electrical power networks. Candidates will have a PhD in electronic/electrical engineering or other relevant discipline, an outstanding track record of research in smart energy systems or a related field, and a demonstrated commitment to student education.
The appointment will be made on an appropriate point on the professorial academic pay scale commensurate with experience.
