RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbents will be responsible for:

  • Lecturing in Management Accounting and/or Financial Management and/or Investment Management at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level;

  • Academic administration;

  • Supervising postgraduate students;

  • Scientific research and publications in accredited academic journals.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Lecturer:

  • MCom in Financial Management Sciences (or equivalent degree);

  • Current/future research specialising in one of the Department’s focus areas:

    • Corporate performance and risk management;

    • Shareholder value creation;

    • Corporate social responsibility;

    • Consumer financial decision-making;

    • Behavioural finance;

    • Retirement finance.

Senior Lecturer:

  • PhD in Finance; OR

  • CA(SA)/ACMA/FCMA/CFA charter holder AND master’s degree with a Finance specialization;

  • Current/future research specialising in one of the Department’s focus areas:

    • Corporate performance and risk management;

    • Shareholder value creation;

    • Corporate social responsibility;

    • Consumer financial decision-making;

    • Behavioural finance;

    • Retirement finance.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

At all levels:

  • Proven lecturing skills and technical ability in the subject field;

  • Appropriate language and communication skills.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

Lecturer:

  • Lecturing experience at a university;

  • Involvement in research activities;

  • The potential to develop into a scholar in the discipline;

  • Involvement in professional activities where applicable;

  • Candidates should demonstrate the potential and willingness to obtain a doctoral qualification within a reasonable period after date of appointment.

Senior Lecturer:

  • Lecturing experience at a university;

  • Lecturing experience at postgraduate level;

  • Research experience;

  • Evidence of supervising postgraduate students;

  • Publications in accredited academic journals;

  • The potential to develop into a scholar in the discipline;

  • Involvement in professional activities where applicable;

  • Candidates that are not as yet in possession of a doctoral degree should demonstrate the potential and willingness to obtain a doctoral qualification within a reasonable period after date of appointment;

  • Candidates should on the basis of the quality of recent or previous research outputs be able to give a clear indication that they are likely to become established or re-established as independent researchers in their own right in the near future.

PLEASE NOTE: As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be required to prepare and present a simulated lecture and/or technical report to a screening panel.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
