Job Details
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) is a member of the University's Senior Executive and has responsibility for the development and advancement of the University's profile in research and research training. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) is supported by the staff in the UQ Research and Innovation portfolio. Units within the portfolio have responsibility to support the University's research community through strategic engagement with external stakeholders, funding organisations and research partners; international collaborations; grants management; research performance data management, contract negotiation; and research ethics and integrity.
Within the UQ Research and Innovation portfolio, the Research Management Office provides administrative and strategic support in the key functional areas of research grants administration, human ethics and animal ethics. The Human Research Ethics Unit is responsible for coordinating Human Research Ethics Committees and relevant processes for research involving humans and provides advice on legislative and other requirements.
This position is within a small, dedicated team. The Coordinator, Human Ethics Unit will be expected to operate with professional autonomy.

The role
The Human Ethics Coordinator has a central role in the management of the ethics review of human research at UQ. In meeting this objective within the context of University’s research effort, mandatory compliance is required by external authorities with regulatory standards and codes that guide the conduct of research in the various academic disciplines. To satisfy these obligations, the Human Ethics Coordinator has administrative responsibility for the effective operation of the University’s NHMRC-registered Human Research Ethics Committees (HRECs) and any HREC Subcommittees. This includes monitoring and advising on matters related to the ethical conduct of research and review of ethics protocol submissions. The position may also supervise administrative support staff.
The person
The Human Ethics Coordinator is a highly visible representative of the University and as such must posses excellent customer service, communication and written skills, coupled with a thorough knowledge of research and compliance management. Interaction with senior professional and academic staff is an important aspect of this position, including frequent interaction with the Chairpersons of the University’s Ethics Committees.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
Remuneration
This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 12 months at HEW Level 7. The remuneration package will be in the range $81,883 - $89,559 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 9.5% (total package will be in the range $89,662 - $98,067 p.a.).
