We're looking for a hardworking individual to join our Advocacy department to run our buddy|su/Hey Buddy project. The role will include recruiting, training and supporting buddies and their matched students, recording and measuring impact on different student groups, particularly those from widening participation backgrounds, and providing progress reports and recommendations back to the union and the university as a partner.

The role will:

  • Be the organisation’s main contact in all aspects relating to delivery of the project
  • Oversee the project to ensure it meets all milestones and objectives, within the agreed budget and timeframe
  • Work with student stakeholders and internal partners to ensure they deliver on their objectives and work collaboratively with each other
  • Working with the uea|su Communications Team, coordinate all communications for the programme, ensuring that messages are consistent and targeted.
  • Ensure all aspects of the programme are delivered to a high standard, meeting the expectations of the students and staff we engage with, and the relevant funding bodies.


Key Project Management Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Advocacy Department to run the buddy|su project; including, but not limited to:
  • Be the organisation’s main contact in all aspects relating to delivery of the project

  • Work with student stakeholders and internal partners to ensure they deliver on their objectives and work collaboratively with each other
  • Working with the uea|su Communications Team, coordinate all communications for the programme, ensuring that messages are consistent and targeted.
  • Ensure all aspects of the programme are delivered to a high standard, meeting the expectations of the students and staff we engage with, and the relevant funding bodies.


Key Project Activities and Deliverables

Development of the buddy|su project and its related activities, including:

  • Developing and delivering the training programme for buddies (student volunteers) and related materials
  • Coordinating communication for buddies, stakeholders and students accessing the scheme
  • Maintaining the relevant digital assets (ie. Vantage, website and handbooks)
  • Implement and maintain the matching process
  • Design and implement support systems for buddies and students
  • Empowering and enabling student-led events and activities, targeting specific student groups (such as socials, events and projects)
  • The maintenance and updates of scheme records and plans
  • Implementing impact recording and reporting processes
  • Liaise with uea|su and UEA departments over the project as required
  • Any other task as directed commensurate with the grade


General Coordinator Responsibilities

  • To follow established policies and procedures
  • To assist in the recruitment and selection of student staff
  • To assist in the performance review of student staff
  • To ensure that union and department communication filter down to front line staff
  • To report any incidents, breaches of policy and procedures to line managers
  • To Understand the importance of health and safety maintaining standards and reporting breaches to line manager
  • To monitor and maintain levels of services to agreed standards
  • To support and develop our volunteers to reach their potential
  • Analyse and make recommendations for development of service standards based on customer feedback and
    research.


General Staff Duties

  • To understand and uphold the purpose and values of the organisation and ensure that these guide and inform the work and conduct of the post holder. The Union has a democratic decision-making process and the post holder will champion this when carrying out their duties.
  • To be knowledgeable of the Union Constitution, as it applies to this post, including any legal requirements.
  • To work in accordance with all Union policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, Staffing Protocols,
  • Financial Procedures and the Union Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • To undertake duties from time to time as requested by the Union Management that may be reasonably considered within the scope of the post.
  • To attend from time to time, as required, meetings as necessary to meet the requirements of the post.
  • To attend all Staff Development Days and training as required. Flexibility in working hours may be required to accommodate this.
  • To be flexible and adaptable in a changing environment, the role holder may be assigned to other areas of the
  • Students’ Union to meet the needs of the service. This will in turn provide development opportunities in which to broaden experience.
