The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences is a vibrant, multidisciplinary School with extensive teaching and research programs covering the fields of Geology, Geography, Environmental Management, Occupational Health and Safety Sciences and Planning.

The role

The successful appointee will be engaged as a postdoctoral research fellow with Dr Talitha Santini. The project aims to accelerate the in situ transformation of mine wastes and tailings into productive soils using a combination of abiotic and biotic approaches, at laboratory, glasshouse, and full field scale. The project will deliver fundamental advances in our understanding of soil formation processes, trace element geochemistry and zeolite mineralogy, and primary succession in microbial communities, whilst concurrently developing a low-cost, sustainable alternative to current waste and tailings management practices. This position will ideally commence December 2017. 

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD or be working towards completiong a PhD in geochemistry, mineralogy, and/or microbiology. Applicants should be team players with a strong professional work ethic, and capacity and interest in acquiring cross-disciplinary expertise. Applicants should have excellent oral and written English language communication skills.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at Academic Research Level A. The remuneration package will be in the range $81,545.80 - $87,535.13 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $95,408.59 - $102,416.10 p.a.).
