Degree Apprenticeship (and Executive Education) Facilitator

Job Purpose The Degree Apprenticeship Facilitator (DAF) is integral to the College of Social Sciences’ strategy for developing partnerships with business, public sector, and third sector organisations, and for innovating to remove barriers to a University of Birmingham education.
Operating within a business partner model, the DAF will be based within the College of Social Sciences Business Engagement Team (solid line management) but will also be part of a wider team supporting the development and provision of Degree Apprenticeships across the University of Birmingham (dotted line management in to the central university Degree Apprenticeship post). The DAF will ensure that the University strategy is implemented within the College and will work very closely with the Central DA team. The DAF will also work with academic and professional services colleagues within the College of Social Sciences to pursue Degree Apprenticeship (DA) opportunities and will support the College in responding to other tendered educational delivery opportunities. The DAF will work alongside the College Business Engagement Team to create and develop multi-faceted partnerships with key external organisations.
The post holder will be responsible for proactively identifying and responding to DA and tendered educational delivery opportunities for the College of Social Sciences and potentially more widely through interdisciplinary opportunities across the University. In fulfilling this role, the post holder will work closely with the College’s academic DA Lead and Director of Education, and with the College’s Business Engagement Partner. The role will also require close liaison with colleagues in the University’s central Academic Services and Human Resources, as part of a wider University DA support ecosystem.
The post holder will encourage and support application activity, offering a strategic level of input to DA initiatives. To achieve these objectives, the post holder will need to engage proactively with academic colleagues as well as potential external partner organisations and deliver excellent customer service to facilitate engagement with opportunities. Person Specification Required
• First degree or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge and experience of competitive tendering procedures, with a proven track record of working on winning bids in either an academic or non-academic context.
• Proven commitment to the delivery of exceptional customer service.
• Strong and persuasive communication skills (written and oral) including the ability to handle negotiations with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
• Proven ability to enhance the quality of proposals through critical review.
• Understanding and experience of the development of budgets for proposals.
• Proven analytical skills (financial, situational and organisational) including the ability to effectively identify and assess risks.
• Applying a significant amount of professional and independent judgement.
• Developed ICT skills, including advanced use of Word and Excel.
• Ability to work well as part of a team.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Knowledge of the UK Degree Apprenticeship agenda.

Desirable
• Experience of working in an academic /public-sector or commercial research/ education environment.
• Translating strategy into operational plans with measurable outcomes; in a large and complex, devolved organisation.
• Experience of supporting education in a discipline relevant to the College.
• Commercial business development or account management experience.
