Job Details

School of Mathematics and Physics

The University of Queensland is recognised nationally and internationally for its research programs across a broad area of mathematics and statistics, and is the leading provider of tertiary mathematics education in Queensland. The School of Mathematics and Physics hosts several research centres and is an active partner in a number of multidisciplinary research groups both within and external to the University. Our staff are recognised internationally for their active and dynamic research programs across a wide range of areas in mathematics and statistics.

The University of Queensland is one of the top three universities in Australia, measured by the quality of its comprehensive range of research fields. In addition to providing excellent potential for interdisciplinary research, the University is located in the vibrant riverfront city of Brisbane, whose sub-tropical climate, cultural diversity, and proximity to coastal regions make it an attractive environment in which to live.

The role

We are seeking to appoint a staff member with a research record in statistics and/or mathematical data science to join our School. The successful appointee will teach in these fields, and mathematics courses more broadly, including service courses.  The appointee will be required to undertake an active role in the research efforts of the School.  This includes frequent publication in high-quality journals, international and interdisciplinary collaboration, and attracting competitive research funding. Other duties include supervision of postgraduate and honours students, as well as administrative, outreach and other activities associated with the School.

The person

Applicants will possess a PhD or equivalent in statistics, mathematical data science, mathematics or a related discipline, with an established record of outstanding original research commensurate with career stage.  Candidates will be expected to demonstrate how their research complements and supplements the School’s current research strengths.  In addition, successful appointees will have high-quality teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with the ability to effectively develop, lecture and coordinate statistics and mathematics courses, including service courses. Demonstrated supervisory experience of undergraduate and postgraduate students is desirable at level B, and essential at level C.

The University of Queensland values diversity and inclusion. Applications are particularly encouraged from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Applications are also encouraged from women. This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, continuing appointment at Academic Level B or C. The remuneration package will be in the range:

Academic Level B - $92,142 - $109,419 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $107,807 - $128,020 p.a.).

Academic Level C - $112,874 - $130,150 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $132,063 – $152,276 p.a.).
