Student Services Directorate

The Student Services Directorate is part of the Student Affairs Division, which also comprises the Health Service and UQ Advantage Office.  The Student Services Directorate is a unit with a strong focus of providing a broad range of student services including enhancing the student experience and assisting the institution in improving student retention. It comprises of the following sub-units: the Learning Hub, Student Counselling, First-Year Engagement, Accommodation Services, Multi-faith Chaplaincy and is expected to work closely with other Directorates in the Student Affairs Division.  Services are delivered across the St. Lucia, Gatton and Herston campuses.

The role

The Learning Adviser develops and guides students to optimise their academic language and learning experiences during their studies, both directly and through assisting other university teaching staff.  As part of a larger team of learning advisers in the Learning Hub, Learning Advisers will present services, across the University’s various campuses and sites and work closely with other key learning providers including Faculties, the Graduate School, the Library, and the Institute for Teaching and Learning Innovation (ITaLI).

The person

Applicants should possess a degree in a relevant discipline e.g. education or educational psychology or TESOL qualifications, and have subsequent relevant experience with postgraduate qualifications preferred. You will have an understanding of academic language and learning needs of students at all levels of university studies and an appreciation of the learning outcomes faced by different types of students as well as an understanding of the teaching and learning environment in a leading teaching and research intensive university. An ability to deliver diverse services consistent with an innovative and electronic learning environment is also essential.  Personal qualities required for this role include strong interpersonal skills, ability work co-operatively and use tact and judgement in assisting students to engage actively and productively with their studies.

Remuneration

This is a fixed term appointment at HEW Level 7 until 14 December 2017.  The remuneration package will be in the range $81,883.65 - $89,559.15 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 9.5% (total package will be in the range $89,662.60- $98,067.27 p.a.).
