    The Faculty of the Professions is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. It is comprised of the prestigious Adelaide Law School, the School of Architecture and Built Environment, the Adelaide Business School, the School of Economics, the Entrepreneurship, Commercialisation and Innovation Centre, Institute for International Trade and the Centre for Global Food and Resources.     The Centre for Global Food and Resources (GFAR) aims to advance research and knowledge in food, water and environmental policy, behavioural economics, food security, food value chain analysis, post-harvest horticultural science, and the role of agriculture in growth and development. The multi-disciplinary team within GFAR has a proven research and development track record, with complementary skills, and global experience working to address the interrelated challenges facing our food and resource systems.

    The Centre values the generation of high quality research outputs including research grants, policy briefs and international peer-reviewed publications. Since 2013, the team's research has grown significantly.  They now conduct and manage research projects throughout Australia, Asia, Africa and the Pacific.  Research projects address issues related to food and nutrition policy, food security, the economics of food value chains, resource and environmental economics and the role of agriculture in growth and development.  In addition to research, the Centre offers a Master of Global Food and Agricultural Business, a Master of Agribusiness and a PhD at its North Terrace campus in Adelaide.

    The Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) exists to help South Australians conserve, sustain and prosper. DEWNR advises and implements environmental policy to support the South Australian Government in achieving a healthy environment, strong economy and thriving communities, now and in the future.

    This position is a joint initiative of The University of Adelaide and the SA Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources. The position will be based at the Centre for Global Food and Resources and will be employed through the University of Adelaide. Work will also be undertaken at the SA Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources offices located in close proximity. The successful candidate will develop collaborative and strategic partnerships with Government and The Centre for Global Food and Resources at the University of Adelaide and will specialise in economic analysis and methodologies for environmental policies, planning and initiatives.

    Salary:  (Level B: $94,135 - $111,788 / Level C, Step 1: $115,310) per annum

    Superannuation:  An employer contribution of 17% applies.

    Term of position:  This fixed term position is available immediately for 2 years in the first instance. There is potential for the position to continue, following an appropriate period of consultation and review.

    Position requirements

    To be successful your application should outline clearly how you meet the following requirements:

    • A PhD in a relevant discipline of agricultural, resource or food economics or closely related field;
    • A demonstrated and appropriate research track record, including publications and grant funding;
    • Ability to provide expert advice and analysis to support environmental policies, planning, and initiatives, and provide advice and economic understanding to inform key policy and strategy documents;
    • Research and analyse complex technical information, use and understand scientific environmental data and environmental accounting data, identify critical issues and translate this information into Plain English to support the development of policy;
    • The ability to apply appropriate environmental-economic modelling tools, for example, this may include simulation modelling techniques such as state transition models; environmental valuation techniques; applied econometrics; or other optimisation models; and
    • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
