Job Details

Job Purpose The Research Development Officer post plays a pro-active role in raising the profile of the School’s research and in increasing public engagement with academic research. They will also work closely with the College’s Research Planning Partner and with academic colleagues to support the delivery of research impact cases. In this dynamic and exciting role the post-holder will work hand in hand with academic staff to support the delivery of world leading research events and to enhance profile building.

Drawing upon their understanding of research in HE, the post-holder will work closely with School and Department academic research leads and Professional Services colleagues in the organisation and management of events to include workshops, conferences, and visiting speakers. They will manage and develop digital/online communications and associated publications. The post-holder will also work closely with the College’s Research Planning Partner to support the monitoring and evaluation of impact activities for the next REF. Person Specification Essential:
• A good first degree, preferably in a Humanities discipline.
• Significant and demonstrable ability to plan, publicise and deliver high quality events within timescale and budget.
• A proven ability to manage a complex range of projects to tight deadlines and with diverse stakeholders.
• Proven financial management skills, including the ability to understand budgets, devise budget monitoring systems, and make recommendations as a result of budget analysis.
• Extensive experience of managing collaborative relationships with academic staff in an HE environment and maintaining effective relationships with a broad spectrum of stakeholders.
• An ability to gain co-operation from a diverse range of people and organisations with disparate goals.
• Self-motivated, well organised and able to prioritise and schedule workloads in the face of conflicting demands.
• An ability to use initiative to make sound judgement calls.
• A proven ability to persuade, negotiate with and influence others.
• An ability to resolve complex operational issues.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills, including experience of writing reports.
• Proven ability for website and content management; providing editorial direction and working with other members of staff to produce creative, engaging, high-quality content which is accessible to a wider audience.
• The ability to manage social media streams to publicise research including blogs, twitter, facebook.
• Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, including experience of: building, maintaining and targeting mailing lists from database packages; production of spreadsheets for effective event and conference budgeting
• Ability to work accurately to tight deadlines with minimal supervision.

Desirable:

• A sound understanding of research in the HE (Higher Education) sector, to include research dissemination/impact, open access, and the REF process.
• Creativity to develop innovative projects that provide higher visibility for the School’s researchers and their research activity
