The Education Department seeks to appoint two lecturers for its new BEd in Foundation Phase Teaching launched in 2015.  The appointment will be on a one-year contract (renewable annually) for 4 years.  The appointment will commence on 1 October 2017; applicants should be in a position to take up the post by the beginning of 2018 at the latest.

The BEd in Foundation Phase Teaching is an innovative programme, which seeks to develop bilingual Foundation Phase Teachers of high quality, who will be willing to teach in the Eastern Cape, especially in rural schools.

Requirements:

  • Candidates should be professionally qualified teachers who are interested in and capable of becoming specialists in either Foundation Phase Mathematics or Foundation Phase English (Home Language and First Additional Language).  In the latter case, the ability to teach both English and Afrikaans would be an advantage. 
  • Applicants should have experience of teaching in primary school, preferably in the Foundation Phase.  It will be an advantage if they are fluent speakers of both English and isiXhosa.  They should have good leadership qualities and be able to manage all aspects of an undergraduate programme.  They should also be team players who can work well with their colleagues.   Some experience in teacher education would be an advantage.
  • Candidates should have a Master’s degree in Education or a related subject.  If they do not already have a PhD, they will be required to register for one; support will be provided.  Ideally, their research should be in the fields of either Literacy or Mathematics in the early years.

Remuneration

Total annual cash:  R357 102.24

Total annual package:  Approximately R400 645.40
