An exciting opportunity is available for a talented researcher to join the large and successful LifeGuide team (see www.lifeguideonline.org) to develop and evaluate e-health interventions. The work will be carried out under the supervision of Professor Lucy Yardley, Dr Miriam Santer and Dr Ingrid Muller, and will involve planning and developing digital interventions for eczema and carrying out qualitative and quantitative evaluations of engagement with the interventions.
You will have an in-depth understanding of health psychology or a closely related subject and will be starting to build your academic standing, aiming to gain recognition at a national level. Your knowledge and experience will usually have been gained through a relevant PhD*, but may also have been achieved via other research experience, normally supported by a relevant postgraduate degree (e.g. MSc in Health Psychology). You will have experience of developing and evaluating digital interventions (preferably using the LifeGuide software and the Person-Based Approach to intervention development), will have demonstrated their ability to work independently and efficiently in a research context, and will have excellent written English skills with meticulous attention to detail. No previous programming or website development experience is needed, but a liking and aptitude for logic-based analysis is required (e.g. SPSS or Excel syntax).
*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who hold a PhD or equivalent qualification, or, in the case of candidates who already have at least one relevant research paper accepted for publication, who have submitted a PhD thesis for the examination of the degree of PhD and are preparing for an examination by viva. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon award of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given. We welcome applicants who would like to work part-time or full-time.
If you would like to discuss the posts are welcome to contact Professor Lucy Yardley via email L.Yardley@southampton.ac.uk.
The position will be available from 1 September 2017 or shortly thereafter for 2.5 years in the first instance with a possible extension (subject to funding) to 5.5 years.
The application deadline will be midnight on the closing date stated above. If you need any assistance, please call Charlene Tyson (Recruitment Team) on +44 (0) 23 8059 6803. Please quote reference 886817JW on all correspondence.
