The School of Chemical Engineering

The School of Chemical Engineering is an international leader in the chemical engineering field and has an excellent international reputation which has been built over four decades at the University. With 35 academic staff, including 17 professors, the School provides quality programs and leadership in chemical engineering education, research and development, and expert consulting to support the process industries. The School conducts undergraduate teaching in the disciplines of chemical, biological, environmental and metallurgical engineering and teaches into postgraduate programs in growing fields including integrated water management and energy studies. The School’s project centred curriculum was recently chosen in a RAE & MIT study as one of six global exemplars in leading engineering education. UQ Chemical Engineering was ranked in the top 25 worldwide in the 2016 QS subject rankings for chemical engineering and was the top ranking school in Australia. It was also given the highest score awarded for chemical engineering in Australia in the recent ERA (Exellence in Research for Australia) study.

The UQ Dow Centre for Sustainable Engineering Innovation is a research centre within the School of Chemical Engineering.  Please refer to its website at www.dowcsei.uq.edu.au for more information.

The role

The successful applicant will be appointed for a period of 2 years, mainly to work on the construction of advanced models for the deployment of energy technologies and to optimise models to produce a timeframe for a global transition to a low/no carbon economy.  The candidate will investigate tools/methods for integrating supply chains for low emission technologies and optimising economy-wide solutions for decarbonisation. The candidate will work with the UQ Dow Centre team and industry colleagues to use existing analysis tools and to develop new analytical methods.

The person

The successful candidate is expected to show creativity, independence, self-motivation, as well as leadership and management skills to ensure the success of the project(s) they are associated with and to meet project milestones.  Knowledge of and skills in modelling integrated systems and/or CGE modelling and computer programming are essential. Most projects the Centre will work on will involve new technologies, which involve science and engineering, not necessarily exactly matching the educational background of the candidate, so the ability to learn and rapidly adopt in new areas is critical.

The University of Queensland values diversity and inclusion.

Applications are particularly encouraged from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. For further information please contact our Australian Indigenous Employment Coordinator at: atsi_recruitment@uq.edu.au

Applications are also encouraged from women.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Remuneration

This is a full-time fixed term appointment at academic level A or B.  Depending on the level of appointment the remuneration package will be in the range of $81,545 to $87,535 (Level A) or $92,142 to $109,419 (Level B) p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% for both levels.
