The University of Queensland Diamantina Institute 

The University of Queensland Diamantina Institute was established in 2007 as the sixth research institute of The University of Queensland. The aim of the Institute is to develop a better understanding of the molecular and cellular basis of disease, and to translate that understanding into practical outcomes for patients. Based at the Translational Research Institute (TRI) at the Princess Alexandra Hospital teaching campus in Brisbane, the Institute has almost 300 researchers and students who work closely with clinicians in the areas of cancer, immunology and genomic medicine. UQDI is the largest partner in TRI, and is building major programs in Immunology, Cancer and Genomic Medicine research, with a particular focus on research aimed at development of new treatments.  Details of the research interests of academic staff may be accessed on the Institute’s web site at http://www.di.uq.edu.au/research.

The role

The successful appointee will collaborate and interact with immunologists, clinicians and statisticians/bioinformaticians utilising a number of core technologies including single cell sequencing and transcriptomics, flow cytometry and mass spectrometry, analysis of antigen responses in vitro and in humanised mice, nanoparticle immunotherapy, proteomic analysis and structural immunology to address collaboratively-generated and individually-developed research questions. The appointee will have access to consumable support, and will be encouraged to apply for his/her own research funding to build a team. There are opportunities to supervise honours, masters and doctoral students from both scientific and clinical backgrounds.

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in Immunology. Applicants should also have a strong desire to develop a successful and highly-productive research career, well-developed practical laboratory skills in cellular, molecular and in vivo Immunology, excellent analytic skills, excellent writing ability, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 2.5 years with the possibility of extension at Academic Level B. The remuneration package will be in the range $92,142.74 - $109,419.20 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $107,807.01- $128,020.46 p.a.).
