Salary:  £37,075 to £46,924 per annum

About the role

The University have recently commissioned an ambitious project (PRG II) which is expected to take 2 years to design and execute; you will be a senior member of a core team responsible for the technical design, development and assurance of a suite of custom build applications design to support the Universities Post Graduate Community.

Reporting to the Manager of iSolutions Applications Design & Development team, you will be the technical lead for this exciting new opportunity. The focus is to develop a suite of high tech applications to support Academic delivery. 

Working closely with the Project Manager 30% - 40% of your time will be working across campus; directly engaged with Senior Users and the Business Change Manager to develop and refine user’s requirements. You primary role in this context will be to translate user stories into technical deliverables.

The remainder of the time will be hands on development and technical leadership. You will support the ADD Manager to lead a small development team responsible for the development of PRGII and other in-house applications. You will also be responsible for working with colleagues within the Projects, Infrastructure and Operations team to design and build the platform to support the service.

You will also help shape the development standards within the web team for developing applications and APIs using the .Net platform.

Culturally the team are focused on providing great value, customer focused applications; you will be responsible for maintaining and developing these standards through the use of continuous improvement techniques within the team.

Your primary focus will be PGR II but you will be expected to work on a variety of different applications used throughout the University.

  • Team player who is customer focused
  • Strong listening and negotiation skills
  • A high level of competence in .NET and JavaScript
  • Building database applications
  • Data manipulation
  • Writing documentation
  • Working closely with customers to understand their requirements

 

We would very much like to hear from candidates who can also demonstrate skills or knowledge in some of the following:

  • Working in Agile development teams
  • Experience with a variety of open-source software
  • Automated-testing frameworks
  • Experience of developing CQRS systems

 

About the Department

iSolutions is one of the largest departments within the University’s Professional Services Group and provides all aspects of ICT to support all University activities. This includes learning and teaching, research, and University administration; and supports a diverse user community of over 35,000 University staff and students.

The department is largely based at our new, spacious corporate accommodation in Guildhall Square, located in Southampton’s recently redeveloped Cultural Quarter. With excellent links via rail and road, the department is in a prime city location, with convenient access to high street shops, bars, and cafés, as well as arts and entertainment venues.
