TECHNICAL ASSISTANT

PEROMNES POST LEVEL: 11

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organise, prepare and present practical classes;

  • Assist students during practical classes;

    Mark assignments/worksheets/practical tests;

    Process student marks;

    Provide research- and teaching assistance to lecturers;

    Plan research studies in conjunction with the project leader;

    Collect and process data;

    Operationally manage the clinical platform(s) of the Division of Biokinetics and Sport Science;

    Management and maintenance of practical teaching equipment of the Division of Biokinetics and Sport Science;

    General administrative support in the Division.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Honours in Biokinetics and/or Sport and Exercise Science or equivalent;

    Registration with the Health Professions Council of South as biokineticist (if applicable);

    At least three years’ practice experience in Biokinetics and/or Sport and Exercise Science;

    Research experience with exposure to a variety of research techniques.

 

COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    Computer skills including MS Office, (Word, Excel, Power Point), Reference Manager/ Endnote, email and internet;

    Appropriate language and communication skills.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

    Master’s degree in Biokinetics and/or Sport and Exercise Science or equivalent;

    Experience in Biokinetics practice management (if applicable);

    Experience in Sport Science unit management (if applicable);

    Experience in presenting practicals to undergraduate students e.g. Sport practicals, sport specific testing, biokinetic related assessment and programme prescription;

    Experience in the processing of student marks;

    Teaching experience;

    Independent research experience.

 

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
