    The Faculty of Arts is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. The Faculty is steeped in history with its roots beginning over 125 years ago. Its arts degree was the first degree offered at the University in 1876.

    Today the Faculty is a place of innovative practice and thought leadership. With outstanding teachers who have won national learning and teaching awards, many graduates have gone on to become leading politicians, policy makers, historians, curators, musicians and writers. The Faculty offers an interesting workplace of diverse disciplines clustered around the arts, humanities and social sciences, and serves the needs of approximately 5000 enrolled students.

    The School of Humanities is one of four schools in the Faculty of Arts and comprises ten Departments, i.e. Art History; Classics, Archaeology and Ancient History; English and Creative Writing; French Studies; German Studies; History; Linguistics; Media; Philosophy; and Spanish Studies. In addition two research centres are affiliated with the School.

    We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in German Studies with a demonstrated expertise in German cultural studies, modern German literature or film or German as a Foreign language. The successful candidate will strengthen the research and teaching profile of the Department of German Studies, contribute to research and teaching initiatives in the Faculty and assist with Honours and postgraduate supervision. You will be required to coordinate a variety of language and culture courses and will be involved in teaching at all levels of undergraduate provision in German Studies. Experience of teaching and convening both German language and culture courses at university level is therefore essential, as is a firm commitment to excellence in teaching. You should have native or near-native competence in both German and English. 

    Salary: Level B ($94,135 to $111,788) per annum.

    Superannuation: An employer contribution of 17% may apply.

    Term of position: This continuing position is available from 2nd February 2018.

     

    Position requirements

    To be successful you should have:

    • A PhD in German Studies
    • Demonstrated experience in teaching German language and culture at all levels.
    • A proven ability to strengthen the research profile of the discipline.
    • Native or near-native-speaker competence in German and English.
