We are looking for a talented researcher to contribute to a new exciting project about Future Everyday Interaction with the Autonomous Internet of Things (A-IoT), funded by the EPSRC. The post-doctoral researcher position is for 2 years, starting on the 2nd of October 2017.

Applications are invited from highly skilled and ambitious researchers in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and with some experience in Embedded Systems design. You should have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and a track record of publication at international leading venues (e.g. AAMAS, AAAI, and Smart Grid/Smart Buildings venues).

The role will involve the design, prototyping and field evaluation of new interactive A-IoT technology. You will lead on, or take part in, building software and hardware prototypes, designing, running and analysing participatory design workshops and field trials, as well as writing up the results for academic publication. The successful candidate will have a "T-shaped profile" with proficiency in one of these areas, and familiarity with the other ones.

You will join an internationally renowned and multi-disciplinary team across the University of Southampton (where this post is based), University College London, Imperial College London, and the Mixed Reality Lab at the University of Nottingham. The team won several best paper awards at CHI and AAMAS. The team is at Southampton by Dr. Sarvapali Ramchurn with partners including Prof. Nick Jennings (ICL), Dr. Enrico Costanza (PI at UCL), and Prof. Tom Rodden at Nottigham.

The Future Everyday Interaction with the Autonomous Internet of Things project (http://gow.epsrc.ac.uk/NGBOViewGrant.aspx?GrantRef=EP/N014243/1) seeks to investigate the design of interaction mechanisms and user interfaces for a future Autonomous Internet of Things (A-IoT). The A-IoT is a system of interconnected devices that reaches beyond most current incarnations of the IoT to include aspects of autonomy or automation as a key feature. In other words, the A-IoT can proactively respond to sensed environmental changes, effectively doing work on behalf of users, with the promise of a more efficient use of resources (e.g. to use less energy) or increased convenience. The work will leverage the experience and research infrastructure accumulated by our team in this domain.
