The Department of Community Health Sciences is the leading unit of its type in Pakistan, recognized regionally and internationally for the relevance, quality and extent of its work in support of public health and the development of primary health care systems. The department comprises four major operational units: epidemiology and biostatistics, health systems, population, reproductive health and environmental health sciences.

The Department of CHS is conducting a study entitled “Primary Care Strategies to reduce High Blood Pressure” – A Cluster Randomized Trial in District Thatta, Rural Pakistan, in selected Union Councils. The study aims to reduce the high blood pressure among adult population and to improve cardiovascular health in high risk groups. This will be achieved through trainings of the lady health workers, public & private health care providers in standard hypertension management guidelines and healthy lifestyle counseling.  

 

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • overall supervision and coordination of the  COBRA study in Thatta which includes day to day management and monitoring of the study activities and the staff in CHS and in field
  • organizing the work plan of the study activities according to the study timelines and ensuring standardized implementation of study activities
  • providing training and refreshers to community coordinators and field staff. Also, orient staff on required study tools, logs, QI tracking, SOPs and timelines
  • trouble shooting if any, in consultation with the study Principal Investigator
  • supervising the DMS related activities, data quality assurance and regular field audits
  • assisting in data analysis, report writing and preparation of manuscripts, developing new proposals, planning activities and preparing study budgets for grant submission
  • facilitating undergraduate and graduate level teaching, as assigned.

 

Requirements

You should have:

  • PhD in Epidemiology or Biostatistics from an HEC recognized University/Institution or equivalent degree or an MBBS along with MSc in Epidemiology or Biostatistics with at least four years’ teaching/research experience in a recognized university with good track record of research publications preferably in journals of international repute
  • minimum three to five years’ experience of supervising/handling a large scale research project at management level in a reputable institution
  • hands on experience of community based research work with respect to data collection, data storage, field editing, quality checks and data entry
  • willingness to frequently travel to the study site in Thatta
  • proficiency in use of related computer software packages including EndNote and other statistical software like SPSS, Stata and SAS, etc.
  • excellent conceptual and analytical skills
  • good academic writing skills
  • good command over written and spoken Urdu and English with fluency in Sindhi language
  • good interpersonal and communication skills 
  • ability to work with a perse team.
