Job Details

Are you interested in learning and feedback in Higher Education? We are seeking an experienced research associate to work with a team of academics from diverse disciplines to deliver an innovative educational project funded by the Bristol Institute for Learning and Teaching. The project aims to evaluate and improve feedback and feedforward practices within undergraduate Health Sciences programmes (medicine, dentistry and veterinary sciences), social work, and theatre studies, with a focus on student transitions from classroom to workplace-based learning environments.

The successful applicant will be responsible for design of data collection tools (focus groups with students and staff, individual interviews with key stakeholders, and staff/student surveys where appropriate), liaison with the Faculty Ethics Committee, collection, analysis, and reporting of data. There will be a minimum of monthly meetings with members of the steering group to discuss progress and confirm targets. Members of the steering group will support the researcher with data analysis (e.g. coding a subset of data and contributing to development of coding framework), and individuals from each programme will support the researcher in establishing contacts and recruiting students and staff as participants. The successful applicant will also be expected to prepare abstract(s) for national and/or international conferences and prepare research papers and reports.

The successful applicant will need proven skills in qualitative data collection, analysis and reporting of research findings, and will have particular experience of both focus group and one-to-one interviewing, and thematic analysis of interview data. Ideally, the successful applicant will also have experience of quantitative research methods (e.g. surveys), and of teaching in a programme where there is a significant transition from classroom to workplace.

This post will require flexible working across different Schools and Faculties. The post-holder will be provided with hot-desking facilities at the University’s Langford campus, where the Veterinary School is located (Langford House, Langford, Bristol, BS40 5DU). Hot-desking facilities will also be available at the Dental School (Lower Maudlin St, Bristol, BS1 2LY) and the Faculty Of Health Sciences office (39-41 St Michael’s Hill, Bristol, BS2 8DZ).

Informal enquiries can be made to Sheena Warman, sheena.warman@bristol.ac.uk.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 6 August 2017.

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture.  We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
