Job Purpose

The College of Social Sciences has the largest education agenda of any College at the University. We educate over 4,500 undergraduate students, almost 25% of the University’s undergraduate population and over 50% of the University’s overseas students are in our College.
We also teach more than 60% of all postgraduate taught students at the University. We also have a global reach with over 700 of our students being taught overseas.

We have an ambitious growth agenda which will see these numbers grow, overseas at our new Dubai campus, and at home.
This growth and size does bring challenges with it – for student experience, operational support for programmes and compliance. The Director of Operations and the academic Director of Education require a postholder to offer substantial, authoritative and senior professional support in tackling several large agendas; examples would be the student experience (particularly the postgraduate taught student experience); compliance, enhancement and Degree Apprenticeships.

The Deputy Director of Operations (Education) has lead Professional Services responsibility within the College for working with the College Director of Education and School Heads of Education across the breadth of the College and with the University in a) making a major contribution to the strategies for and b) delivery ofUniversity and College education delivery, compliance and enhancement strategies. The Deputy Director of Operations (Education) will provide strategic oversight for, and coordinate the work of, School based Learning and Teaching Managers (or equivalent) to ensure the provision of integrated education support activities across all undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programmes of the College. The postholder carries a high degree of leadership, advisory and developmental responsibility for the professional services staff across the College who support education delivery, educational enhancement, and our student experience. The post holder will represent the College on relevant working groups and committees at College and University level and will also act as one of two Deputy Directors within the College providing support and cover in the Director’s absence.

The postholder is expected to demonstrate a substantial degree of independent professional responsibility and discretion over a broad portfolio of activities which cover every area of the education agenda in the College.
