Glaucoma NZ, through the University of Auckland, is looking for a strategic, innovative individual who feels passionate about the work of the organisation and is confident about their ability to evolve and improve the services provided and increase awareness. The successful applicant will have solid management experience in the not-for-profit sector.  

GNZ is a charitable trust established in 2002 with a mission to eliminate unnecessary blindness from glaucoma.  Glaucoma is the number one preventable cause of blindness in New Zealand. It offers nationwide services to everyone affected by and concerned with glaucoma.

GNZ is currently located in Grafton, Auckland, within the University of Auckland’s Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.

The Executive Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing an effective strategic plan for the organisation in collaboration with the GNZ Trustees.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and working with a small team

  • Strategy, planning, finance, operations, reporting

  • Management of our education and awareness programmes

  • Maintaining a sustainable fundraising strategy that builds surpluses

  • Using effective marketing to increase awareness of the organisation

  • Building relationships with key stakeholders, and connecting with supporters

  • Keeping up to date with glaucoma trends

  • Producing an organisational Newsletter to members

 

Person specification:

  • Results-driven, with proven experience and success in the not-for-profit sector across a wide range of income streams, and evidence of developing and implementing strategic plans

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, such as delivering presentations and writing reports

  • Effective planning, coordination and time management skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritise work flows and meet deadlines

  • Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with a wide range of people and organisations including sponsors and donors

  • Demonstrated competency with the Microsoft Office suite (in particular Word, Excel and Outlook)

  • Confident public speaker

  • Competency with financial reporting

  • Self-starter, able to work autonomously

  • Flexible and adaptable

This is a one year appointment in the first instance, available on either a full- or part-time basis working either 30 or 37.5 hours per week across 4 or 5 days.

Professional Staff Level 6.
